My name is Jonathan Décaillet, and I am currently in my final year of training as a primary school teacher at the University of Teacher Education. I have many years of experience in tutoring. In addition to individual lessons, I have also conducted and led preparatory courses for high school entrance exams as well as group lessons. I have taught children across all age groups and educational levels. Thanks to my current studies, I also bring general teaching experience in classroom settings and have occasionally taken on substitute teaching roles. Additionally, I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geography.
In my free time, I am passionate about playing chess, enjoy hiking and traveling, regularly engage in sports (such as volleyball and cycling), love reading, and learning new languages. I also spend a lot of time with family and friends. Generally, I am very eager to learn, curious, patient, and open-minded.
Spending time in classrooms quickly reveals the diversity among individuals. Each child comes with different backgrounds and requires tailored, individual approaches to learning. Furthermore, each child brings varying levels of prior knowledge and preconceived ideas, and it is the teacher’s responsibility to recognize these and build upon them. Every child also brings unique interests and life experiences, which the teacher should also connect to.
Tutoring and teaching should, therefore, be personalized and custom-tailored. Knowledge is constructed by the learner, not the teacher. Competence means having knowledge, being able to apply and transfer it, and having the desire to do so. Motivation is therefore central to learning. A good relationship between learners and teachers is a key prerequisite for providing quality instruction.
